gave me reason for it all!
do you remember your first time?
For me, it was with my good friend Adam Petley (keyboards) from Southampton, who booked in for the very first recording session with his rock band 'Mr Wolf', to use the newly upgraded studio.

As all good openings go, I was working up to 4:30 that morning to finish all the soldering required to finish the connection of the outboard gear (gates, reverbs, delays, etc.) to the main desk via the patch field. I will never forget, in order to keep me company during the wee hours, whilst I was sniffing (multicore) flux, I had an old black and white telly tuned to Channel 4, which just happened to show the life history of Les Paul.

Wow! What an inspiration. Not many people know this but, Les Paul (who we all tend to liken to a model of Gibson guitar), was the inventor of...the solid body electric guitar AND multitrack recording!!! Furthermore, Les and his wife, Mary Ford, were a huge inspiration to Richard and Karen Carpenter in experimenting with multitracking vocals, which became so autonomous to the 'Carpenters Sound'.
